MEXC, a global cryptocurrency exchange, released its security report for July and August 2026, detailing the blocking of 215 instances of suspected illicit fund inflows. The exchange successfully protected user assets amounting to approximately $600,000 and identified over 20,000 accounts linked to risky activities.

MEXC Security Report Overview

MEXC has unveiled its security report covering July and August 2026, highlighting significant achievements in blocking suspected illicit fund inflows and protecting user assets. The report indicates that all 215 reported cases of external theft and fraud-related fund inflows were successfully blocked. Among these, MEXC assisted in freezing funds for 42 cases in cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Financial Impact and Statistics

The total blocked amount reached approximately 38,655,490 USDT, reflecting an astounding increase of about 2,971% in the number of blocked cases and a 12,646% increase in the amount compared to the previous reporting period. MEXC noted that the overall cryptocurrency industry experienced 184 security incidents during this timeframe, resulting in losses estimated at around $535 million.

Additionally, phishing, scams, and endpoint vulnerabilities accounted for approximately 48% of these incidents. The report also highlighted the growing trend of hackers utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to generate phishing content and assist in malware creation, thereby increasing the efficiency of attacks.

MEXC Reports Security Measures: $3.9 Million in Risk Funds Blocked

Enhanced Risk Management

In terms of account risk management, MEXC identified 20,752 accounts linked to risky activities, which is a 118.03% increase from the previous period. The number of identified risk groups rose to 5,288, with notable concentrations in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) at 1,803, Nigeria at 1,099, and Indonesia at 976.

MEXC has also supported the recovery of user assets, manually processing 818 requests for erroneous deposits during July and August, resulting in the return of approximately 600,000 USDT, a 75.31% increase from the last period. The exchange has been actively sharing suspicious address information with key industry players to aid in tracking funds and has reinforced collaboration with law enforcement for the verification and freezing of related funds.

Guardian Fund Initiative

To further protect user assets, MEXC operates a Guardian Fund, structured with both USDT and BTC to ensure immediate liquidity and long-term asset readiness. The current size of the Guardian Fund is $100 million, with plans to expand it to $500 million in the future.
