A fake website impersonating the hardware wallet brand Ledger has surfaced prominently in Google search results, aiming to deceive users into providing their 24-word recovery phrases. This site reportedly received over one million visits in the past month.
Warning About Fake Ledger Website
On October 10, security researcher Cyberscrilla alerted users about a fraudulent website and application that mimic Ledger, a well-known hardware wallet brand. The counterfeit site has been targeting users by trying to extract their 24-word recovery phrases. It has allegedly seen more than one million visits in the last 30 days.
Prior to this warning, a September investigation by cybersecurity firm Zscaler uncovered malicious Google ads impersonating Ledger, directing users to a fake wallet verification page.
This alert comes amid an ongoing investigation by Ledger into a suspected wallet theft incident involving customers of Southeast Asian distributor CryptoBilis, with estimated losses around $86 million. Users are strongly advised never to enter their hardware wallet recovery phrases on any website to avoid losing their assets.
