Key Findings from ARK's Q3 2026 DeFi Report
ARK Invest's recently released DeFi report for Q3 2026 indicates a rebound in decentralized finance (DeFi) activities. A major factor contributing to the growth in decentralized exchange (DEX) trading is the notable increase in tokenized stock transactions.
During the third quarter, the spot trading volume on DEXs experienced a 13% quarter-over-quarter rise, reaching $571 billion. This marks the first rebound in DEX trading volume after four quarters of decline. Notably, the trading volume for tokenized stocks surged approximately ninefold to $50 billion, which increased their share of total DEX spot trading from about 1% in Q2 to approximately 9% in Q3.
In addition to tokenized stocks, the adjusted trading volume for stablecoins grew by 16% to $781 billion. The number of monthly active addresses increased by 39% to around 73 million, while the total market capitalization of real-world assets (RWA) saw a 19% increase, reaching approximately $39 billion.
Furthermore, the scale of deposits in lending protocols grew by 51% to $81 billion, with active loan volumes increasing by 41% to $29 billion. In the derivatives market, the open interest for perpetual contracts on DEXs rose by 76% to about $24 billion, although trading volume decreased by 16% to approximately $1.4 trillion, indicating a growing position size but reduced trading activity overall.
